紅一点の女性リードシンガー、ポリー・ブラウン（1947年4月18日英国バーミンガム生まれ）を含む6人編成で、69年にオーディションで選ばれたメンバーでピケティウィッチが結成されます。翌70年リリースのシングル「That same old feeling」で全英チャート5位の大ヒットを記録。最初にして最後のアルバム『Pickettywitch』を発表(CDに全12曲が含まれる)後、72年にポリー・ブラウンは脱退します。女性歌手が前面に出たこのグループは、トニー・マコーレーとジョン・マクラウドによって書かれたヒットシングル「That same old feeling」で有名になり、1970年に全英チャート5位に入ります。オリジナル・メンバーはポリー・ブラウン(ボーカル)、クリス・ウォーレン(ボーカル)、ボブ・ブリタイン(オルガン)、マーティン・ブリッジス(ギター)、マイク・トミッヒ(ベースギター)、キース・ホール(ドラム)でした。ピケッティウィッチは、レコードプロデューサーのジョン・マクラウドがパイ・レコードにサインし、1969年7月にデビュー・シングル「You Got Me I don't Know」をリリースしました。そのシングルは、数ヶ月後に米国チャートでTOP40をとなった彼らの最初のヒットシングルです。続く2つのシングルもその年に全英チャートインしました。1970年、「デイズ・アイ・リメンバー」はラジオではオンエアーされましたが、チャートには登場しませんでした。ポリー・ブラウンは1972年後半にソロ活動でグループを離れます。

『70年頃、エジスン・ライトハウスの「恋のほのお」などが八木誠さんの番組でかかっていた。そんな中にピケッティウイッチの「恋はフィーリング」もあった。これはその紅一点ポーリー・ブラウン率いる6人組のパイ時代(69-73年)の唯一のLP‘Pickettwitch’と全シングル、未発表1曲を加えた完全版。トニー・マッコーリーらしくポップのプロによる名曲揃い。バカラック調の曲も多く、ポーリーが‘英国のディオンヌ・ワーウィック’と呼ばれるのもわかるし、ソフト・ロックファンも要チェック。ポーリー自身のライナーも楽しい。』

ミドル・オブ・ザ・ロードは、1970年代からヨーロッパとラテンアメリカで成功を収めているスコットランドの4人組ポップ・グループです。ABBAが70年代半ばに登場する前、ミドル・オブ・ザ・ロードは女性ボーカル、サリー・カーの独特のハーモニーとリードボーカルを持つ初期のユーロ・ポップのバンドでした。彼らのシングル4枚が、それぞれ100万部以上を売り上げ、ゴールドディスクを獲得し、「チャーピー,チャーピー,チープ,チープ」「サクラメント」「トゥイードルディー, トゥイードルダム」「ソリー・ソレイ」の4作品で1972年初頭までに500万枚以上のレコードを売り上げました。

I am offering two CDs by a female vocal band from the UK that was active from the late 60s to the 70s. They are not rentals. Both discs have been listened to 2-3 times.

① is a six-member band including the only female lead singer, Polly Brown (born April 18, 1947 in Birmingham, England). Pickettywitch was formed in 1969 with members selected through auditions. The single "That Same Old Feeling" released the following year was a huge hit, reaching number 5 in the UK charts. After releasing their first and last album, Pickettywitch (containing 12 songs in total on the CD), Polly Brown left the band in 1972. The group, which featured a female singer at the forefront, became famous for the hit single "That Same Old Feeling," written by Tony Macaulay and John MacLeod, which reached number 5 in the UK charts in 1970. The original members were Polly Brown (vocals), Chris Warren (vocals), Bob Brittain (organ), Martin Bridges (guitar), Mike Tomich (bass guitar), and Keith Hall (drums). The Piketty Witch were signed to Pye Records by record producer John MacLeod and released their debut single "You Got Me I don't Know" in July 1969. That single was their first hit single, reaching the Top 40 in the US charts a few months later. The next two singles also charted in the UK that year. In 1970, "A Day I Remember" was aired on the radio but did not appear on the charts. Polly Brown left the group in late 1972 to pursue a solo career.

Note: The record is in good condition, but there is a skip on the 22nd track. This was the first time I had heard it when I put it up for sale, and to my eye it seems to be a bug in the disc itself rather than a scratch. Please consider this as a product of that nature.

Additional note: "Around 1970, Edison Lighthouse's "Love's Flame" and other songs were played on Makoto Yagi's show. Among them was Piketty Witch's "Love is a Feeling." This is the complete version of the only LP "Pickettwitch" from the six-piece Pie era (69-73) led by the only female member Polly Brown, as well as all the singles and one unreleased song. A collection of great songs by pop professionals, as expected from Tony McCauley. There are many Bacharach-style songs, and it's easy to see why Polly is called the "British Dionne Warwick," so soft rock fans should check it out. Polly's own liner notes are also fun. '

Middle of the Road is a Scottish four-piece pop group that has been successful in Europe and Latin America since the 1970s. Before ABBA came on the scene in the mid-70s, Middle of the Road was an early Europop band with the unique harmonies and lead vocals of female vocalist Sally Carr. Their four singles sold over one million copies each and received gold discs, and by early 1972 they had sold over five million records with "Chirpy, Chirp, Cheap, Cheap", "Sacramento", "Tweedledee, Tweedledum" and "Sorry, Soray".

The band was formed in Glasgow, Scotland on April 1, 1970 by original lead singer Sally Carr, drummer Ken Andrew, guitarist Ian McCready and bassist brother Eric McCready. They had already been playing together since 1967 under the name "PART 4" and later under the name "Las Caracas" in a Latin American style. Under the name "Las Caracas", they appeared on the British TV talent show Opportunity Knock. However, they were unable to find success in their native England, so in 1970 they moved to Italy. There they met Italian music producer Giacomo Tosti, who would bring a unique sound to the band. It later reached No. 1 on the UK singles chart in June 1971. "Middle of the Road" had five hit singles in the UK between 1971 and 1972. They were especially successful in Germany, where they had 11 top 40 hits between 1971 and 1974. "Chirpy, Chirp, Cheap, Cheap" and "Sacramento" were played on Scandinavian radio many times. They also had four No. 1 hits in the Netherlands between 1971 and 1973. In 1974, Neil Henderson, an early member of the Bay City Rollers, joined the band on guitar. "TALK OF ALL THE USA" was often played on late-night radio in Japan.
