①は、

『65年にルー・アドラーにより設立されたダンヒル・レコード。ママス＆パパスやスリー・ドッグ・ナイトをはじめ、バリー・マクガイア、ステッペンウルフ、ハミルトン・ジョー・フランク＆レイノルズ等を擁し、60年代後半から70年代前半にかけてヒット・チャートを賑わせた。その‘ダンヒル・サウンド’を代表するグループであり、日本でも高い人気を誇ったのがグラス・ルーツだ。彼らのオリジナル・アルバム5タイトルがボーナス・トラックを追加して国内発売となった。-略- 72年の6作目[ムーブ・アロング]は、「恋は二人のハーモニー」や「涙の滑走路」等のヒット曲を含み、日本でも人気もピークだった頃。スリー・ドッグ・ナイトとはまた違ったソウルっぽさと、ブラス・ロック風サウンドと王道ポップが入り混じる親しみやすさが懐かしくもあり、曲作りの巧みさを感じる。』

②2000年代に入ってからの新生グラスルーツのLIVE CD-R盤。10年以上前にヤフオクで購入。当時はまだグラスルーツの国内盤は全くなく米国盤もすべてがCD化されていない状況で熱心なファンの方がサイトの中でイタリヤ盤CDを紹介していたりしていました。そんな中で購入した本CDですが、音質やグループとしての演奏のまとまりもよくロブ・グリルの‘有終の美’といった内容です。特質すべきは同じダンヒル・レコードのハミルトン・ジョーフランク＆レイノルズで大ヒットした「恋のかけひき」を6曲目で取り上げている点です。この歌は元々グラスルーツに渡る予定の曲だったとか… (故)ロブ・グリルの声質にあったオリジナル版が聴けるのは本盤のみ(?)でしょうか。メンバーの情報が全くありませんが、2005年に発売されたDVD[THE’60sROCK EXPERIENCE LIVE]というロジャー・マッギンが司会をしたステッペンウルフやスリー・ドッグ・ナイトのチャック・ネグロン等そうそうたるメンバーが出演したTVスペシャル・コンサートでグラスルーツとして出演(3曲を披露)したメンバーと同じ顔ぶれのようです。

① is Dunhill Records, founded by Lou Adler in 1965. With artists such as the Mamas & the Papas, Three Dog Night, Barry McGuire, Steppenwolf, Hamilton Joe Frank & Reynolds, and others, the label was a hit chart hit from the late 1960s to the early 1970s. The Grass Roots are a group that represents the Dunhill sound and were also very popular in Japan. Five of their original albums were released in Japan with bonus tracks added. -Excerpt- Their sixth album, Move Along, released in 1972, included hits such as "Love is Harmony for Two" and "Tears Runway," and was at the peak of their popularity in Japan. The soul-like feel, which is different from Three Dog Night, and the familiarity of the mix of brass rock-like sound and classic pop are nostalgic, and the songwriting is skillful. 』

②A LIVE CD-R of the new Grassroots from the 2000s. Purchased on Yahoo! Auctions over 10 years ago. At the time, there were no domestic Grassroots releases and none of the US releases were on CD, so an enthusiastic fan introduced the Italian CD on a website. This is the CD I purchased, and the sound quality and the group's performance are good, making it a fitting finale for Rob Grill. What is noteworthy is that the sixth track is "Love's Tactics," a big hit with Hamilton Joe Frank & Reynolds, also on Dunhill Records. Apparently this song was originally meant to be given to Grassroots... Is this the only disc(?) where you can hear the original version that suited the voice of the late Rob Grill? There is no information about the band members, but they appear to be the same members who appeared as Grassroots (performing three songs) on the 2005 DVD [THE'60sROCKEXPERIENCE LIVE], a TV special concert hosted by Roger McGuinn and featuring such notable members as Steppenwolf and Chuck Negron of Three Dog Night.
