ポール・バターフィールド・ブルース・バンドは、1963年シカゴでハーモニカのポール・バターフィールドとギタリスト、エルヴィン・ビショップが中心となり結成された白人ブルース・バンドです。その後、天才ギタリスト、マイク・ブルームフィールドをメンバーに加え、エレクトラ・レコードと契約。1965年7月にニューポート・フォーク・フェスティバルに出演し脚光を浴びます。さらにこのフェスに出演していたボブ・ディランのバックを急遽務め、さらに話題となります。同年、デビューアルバム『The Paul Butterfield Blues Band』を発表し、翌1966年７月セカンド『East-West』を録音し８月に発売します。このアルバムは、彼らの代表作となり人気を決定付けますが、マイク・ブルームフィールドが脱退し、第一期黄金期は終わります。本2CDは、まさにそんなブルームフィールド在籍時の1965年のニューポート・フォーク・フェスティバルでの演奏から1966年の10月のフィルモア・イーストまでのライブ音源を収録したもので若き日のブルームフィールドとエルヴィン・ビショップの共演を聴くことが出来ます。レーベルNOがないので正規盤ではないようですが、音は(この時代なのに多分ステレオ音源？)良いです。《紙ジャケット仕様》の見開きで綺麗に出来ています。名曲「East West」も16分以上で収録されています。1～2回くらい聴きました。詳しい曲目は画像5を、演奏メンバーは画像6を参照下さい。

The Paul Butterfield Blues Band is a white blues band formed in Chicago in 1963 by harmonica player Paul Butterfield and guitarist Elvin Bishop. After that, they signed with Elektra Records, adding the genius guitarist Mike Bloomfield to the band. In July 1965, they appeared at the Newport Folk Festival, which drew attention. They also suddenly became the backup for Bob Dylan, who was also performing at the festival, which drew even more attention. In the same year, they released their debut album, "The Paul Butterfield Blues Band," and in July 1966, they recorded their second album, "East-West," which was released in August. This album became their masterpiece and solidified their popularity, but Mike Bloomfield left the band, and their first golden age came to an end. This 2CD album contains live recordings from the performance at the Newport Folk Festival in 1965, when Bloomfield was still a member, to the Fillmore East in October 1966, and you can listen to a young Bloomfield and Elvin Bishop performing together. There is no label number, so it seems to be an official release, but the sound is good (probably stereo, considering the era?). It is a beautifully made double-page paper jacket. The famous song "East West" is over 16 minutes long. I listened to it once or twice. Please refer to image 5 for detailed track list and image 6 for the performers.
